About Strides For Action

Balloons and Signage for the Old Walk Registration site

Strides for Action is the latest evolution of the AIDS Walk, which was started in 1986 by AIDS Action as a way to help people living with HIV (PLWH) live better lives and prevent new HIV infections.

Strides for Action is GREATER than Fenway Health or AIDS Action, Strides for Action supports many other non-profits and LGBTQIA+ wellness causes. By supporting Strides for Action you are supporting many different non-profits who provide a wider range of services than Fenway could provide on its own. Fenway is providing the logistic, marketing support and the overall leadership for the event, and as such is coordinating the event, however the event itself belongs to the community. Below are the ways Strides for Action provides support to other organizations.

A Harbor to the Bay Rider, Kendra Moore

Partnership with Harbor to the Bay

Harbor to the Bay will take place on Saturday, September 23rd. This AIDS benefit bike ride will embark on its 21st and final ride from Boston to Provincetown. As in the past, Fenway Health will receive funds from riders and crew members who select us as the beneficiary of their fundraising. This charity ride started in 2003, was the idea of the late Michael A. Tye, a successful businessman, philanthropist, bicyclist, and friend who lived purposefully and deeply concerned for his community. Since that first ride, Harbor to the Bay has raised more than $6.7 million to support those living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS, of which $3.4 million has gone directly to Fenway Health. We work closely with Harbor to the Bay to coordinate the funding resources for all the beneficiary organizations.

Community Partners

Other non-profit organizations are encouraged to participate in the wellness festival and sponsor a team! After the community organization minimum is raised to help offset the cost of the event, 70% of the dollars raised by the community organization goes directly to that organization to support the good work they do for the community. In this way, non-profits of all sizes can participate and raise money through an event larger than most organizations could run independently.

Wellness Festival

Throughout the morning, community organizations, corporate partners and other groups will be on-hand to share information and activities. Everything from sporting activities, photo opportunities, healthy eating, crafts will fill the field with enthusiasm and activities. In this way Strides for Action provides educational and engaging activities for a whole series of LGBTQIA+ wellness issues.

Increased Visibility and Education

Much of the value for the AIDS walk and Harbor to the Bay has always been creating fun educational opportunities for people not directly impacted by the AIDS crisis and so it is with Strides for Action. The opportunities listed above consolidate so much positive energy and educational resources into one place it becomes a natural place for members of the community and allies to ask questions, learn and have fun together while we increase access to healthcare and support for everyone.

All money raised supports the essential care and services of Fenway Health and AIDS Action.
